Quick answer

Old Premium Bonds remain valid if they have not been cashed in.

Are old Premium Bonds still valid?

Yes. Bonds continue to enter monthly draws until they are cashed in. A prize claim does not expire. A paper prize cheque is different: it is valid for three months, after which a replacement can be requested.

How do I check old Premium Bonds online?

  1. If you can sign in, find your Holder’s Number in your NS&I account.
  2. Otherwise request a replacement Bond record by the appropriate official route.
  3. If you are unsure whether an investment still exists, use the NS&I Tracing Service.

Only a Bond number or no Holder's Number

A Bond Number is not accepted in the NS&I website Prize Checker. Include any known Bond Number as a reference when contacting NS&I, or use official winning and unclaimed-number lists. You cannot check Premium Bonds by name on this site.

Moved house or changed surname

Registered customers can update many details after signing in. NS&I also provides a personal-details route for Premium Bonds holders; name changes may require a signed paper form or letter.

What happens if the owner has died?

Premium Bonds cannot be transferred directly to another person. They can remain eligible for draws for 12 months after death in the existing holder’s name while the estate follows NS&I’s bereavement process.

Can old prizes still be claimed?

Yes. NS&I says there is no time limit to claim an unclaimed prize. Use the official prize history and claim routes to confirm entitlement.
